GENERAL SUMMARY
-
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Provides developmentally appropriate patient care using the nursing process under the direct supervision of the surgeon and applies knowledge, skill and critical thinking necessary to assist in performing a safe operation.

Develops an individualized nursing plan of care in response to specific patient needs within a defined scope of practice and AORN standards.
-
Communicates with other members of the healthcare team to assure critical information is relayed throughout the perioperative period.

Performs other duties as assigned.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
-
Bachelor’s Degree required or must be actively enrolled in a Bachelor’s program with graduation within three years. BSN preferred.

Graduate of an RNFA program accepted by the Certification Board Perioperative Nursing.
-
Three years of experience in perioperative nursing.
-
One year of experience in cardiothoracic operative nursing preferred.

Pediatric experience preferred.
-
CPR & PALS certification required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.

RN certification preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS
-
Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
