Position Summary
The Medical Director of the Renown Crisis Care Center (CCC) provides clinical leadership and administrative oversight for a 24/7 behavioral health urgent care facility. The CCC serves as a critical entry point for individuals experiencing psychiatric crises, offering timely evaluation, stabilization, and connection to ongoing care.
The Medical Director ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care; supports a multidisciplinary team including advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), social workers, certified peer support specialists/mental health technicians, and nurses; and works collaboratively with health system leadership to advance service delivery and continuous quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative Leadership (20% protected time)
- Provide clinical oversight of medical services at the Crisis Care Center, working closely with dyad partner who will provide operational oversight.
- Support psychiatric mental health NPs, ensuring alignment with evidence-based practice and institutional standards.
- Lead the development, implementation, and revision of clinical policies and protocols to support high-quality and trauma-informed crisis care.
- Collaborate with nursing, behavioral health, and administrative leadership to ensure regulatory compliance and clinical excellence.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and performance evaluation of clinical providers.
- Monitor key quality metrics, lead continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives, and oversee case reviews and safety event analysis.
- Represent the CCC in relevant systemwide meetings and external stakeholder engagements as appropriate.
Education and Training
- Support the teaching mission of UNR Med and Renown Health by participating in the education and supervision of learners.
- Promote continuing education and professional development for CCC staff.
Qualifications
- MD or DO with current licensure to practice medicine in the state of Nevada.
- Board certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
- Additional board certification or fellowship training in Addiction Medicine or Addiction Psychiatry is preferred.
- Minimum of three years of post-residency clinical experience, including experience in emergency psychiatry, crisis care, or community psychiatry.
- Prior leadership or administrative experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to health equity, continuous quality improvement, and team-based care.
Additional Information
- This position includes 20% protected time (approximately 8 hours/week) for administrative and leadership responsibilities.
- This is a faculty position eligible for academic appointment through the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med).
- The role reports directly to the Chief of Behavioral Health and works closely with their dyad partner and other clinical and operational leaders within the integrated academic health system.
