Under the Management of the Virtual Intensive Care Unit leadership, functions as the link between virtual monitoring and the clinicians at the bedside. Provides trending and tracking of the integrated physiologic and telemetry monitoring component of the patient and communicates this appropriately to the clinical health care providers in support of maximizing the safe, effective, efficient, and evidenced based care of the patient. Assist all concerned departments in the upkeep, maintenance, and purchase of equipment, and will help support development of new programs and purchases related to patient monitoring. Accountable for adhering to the standards set by regulatory agencies such as but not limited to Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), Center for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), Fire Marshall and Michigan Occupational Health and Safety (MIOSHA). Analytical skills necessary to operate physiologic and telemetry monitoring equipment, 12 Lead EKG equipment, using minor hand tools. The ability to deal effectively and professionally with the public, patients, clinical staff, and peers upholding the values of Borgess Medical Center and Ascension Health. This position adheres to Borgess Medical Center Patient Care Policies and Procedures for the performance of tasks in the delivery of patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Knowledge of computer hardware and software required to complete activities related to physiologic and telemetry monitoring as well as electronic communication, reports, request and concern filing competence.
- Must be able to perform a variety of work routines and demonstrate problem-solving abilities.
- Follow Patient Monitoring Measures (Physiological and Telemetry).
- Follow Universal Precautions.
- Troubleshooting of various physiologic and telemetry devices.
- Obtains patient data, trending and tracking as delegated by unit management, the registered nurse, the physician or Licensed Individual Practitioner and as defined by patient care policies, procedures and protocols.
- Documents abnormal data for a given patient to Registered Nurse, Physician or Licensed Individual Practitioner in the unit log (not a part of the patient record).
- Assists the development, initiation, and continuance of the monitoring plan of care for the patient, including evaluations and revisions.
- Initiates actions in response to data indicating medical emergency, initiates CPR as indicated.
- Initiates actions to ensure a safe patient care environment. Notifies Registered Nurse of unsafe environment. Corrects unsafe conditions as appropriate.
- Contributes to the evaluation and revision of the patient monitoring plan of care.
- Documents patient response to nursing and medical interventions.

- BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. Must maintain BLS certification.
