SCOPE OF POSITION:
|
The practice of nursing by a Licensed Practical Nurse is defined as the performing of selected tasks and sharing of responsibility under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
|
|
RESPONSIBILITIES:
|
- Under the direction of an RN, perform selected tasks and activities to obtain and report information to assist the RN in the assessment, planning and evaluation of patient needs.
|
- Contributes to the nursing assessment by:
- Collecting, reporting, and recording objective and subjective data in an accurate and timely manner. This includes:
- Observation about condition or change in patient status
- Signs and symptoms that deviate from normal health status
|
- Participate in the development of the patients care plan.
- Participate in delegating and giving direct care based on priority of needs and established goals.
- Providing an environment conductive to safety and health.
- Documents nursing interventions and responses to care.
- Communicating nursing interventions and responses to care to appropriate members of the healthcare team.
- Under the direction of the RN, perform patient related activities, medication administration, diagnostic testing, therapeutic treatments, which contribute to safe and efficient delivery of patient care.
- Supports and participates in quality initiatives.
- Maintains accountability for professional competency. Demonstrates knowledge and critical thinking to promote optimal patient care.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
|
- State of CT LPN License
- Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- CPR certified.
- CPI certified.
- Ability to read and write English with a command of verbal English.
- Ability to work well and collaboratively with other members of the health care team
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures.
- Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility.
- Ability to work in a time-oriented environment including exposure to all patient elements i.e., blood borne pathogens, physical requirements include lifting and pulling of patients, pushing of stretchers, standing, and walking.
- May be exposed to environmental hazards such as anesthetic gases or elements.
- Ability to meet the care needs of the patient populations served.
