About us:
BlueWave's mission is to protect our planet by transforming access to renewable energy. As an Independent Power Producer (IPP), BlueWave develops, owns, and operates distributed generation (DG)-scale solar and battery storage projects that bring clean power directly to communities and the grid. With a proven track record and a pipeline of several gigawatts across the United States, BlueWave is helping ensure a cleaner, more reliable, and more resilient energy future. BlueWave is proud to be a certified B Corp, recognized by B Labs as "Best in the World" in Governance.
About the role:
BlueWave is seeking a Senior Project Manager to oversee the successful delivery of distributed generation (DG)-scale solar and storage projects across their full lifecycle. As an IPP, BlueWave develops, owns, and operates projects for the long term; meaning that our Project Managers are accountable for both near-term delivery and long-term asset value.
The Senior Project Manager will report to the VP of Execution and lead at a strategic level, setting project priorities, managing budgets and contracts, aligning cross-functional teams, and ensuring accountability across contractors, EPCs, and consultants.
The Senior Project Manager serves as the central hub between Development, Preconstruction, Execution, Asset Management, utilities, regulators, lenders, and investors. This role requires balancing financial discipline, risk management, and stakeholder communication with the ability to delegate effectively to field-based teams. Success means projects are delivered on scope, schedule, and budget - and are structured to perform reliably and profitably for years to come.
What you'll do:
- Leadership & Delegation
- Oversee project execution through delegation to Construction Managers, EPCs, and consultants.
- Mentor project managers/engineers, focusing on resource allocation and productive collaboration
- Manage higher-risk or more complex projects requiring advanced judgment and decision-making.
- Project Oversight & Controls
- Own the project P&L: create, validate, and manage project budgets; forecast financials; track variances.
- Develop and maintain high-level project schedules; ensure alignment with contractual milestones, interconnection requirements, and financing needs common to DG-scale projects.
- Identify and mitigate project risks; manage change orders and contractual claims.
- Provide executive-level reporting (weekly, monthly, quarterly) on project progress, budget, and schedule.
- Contract & Stakeholder Management
- Negotiate and manage contracts with EPCs, consultants, and key vendors.
- Ensure compliance with lender, investor, and financing requirements.
- Act as primary liaison with utilities, AHJs, and other regulatory entities, with an emphasis on DG interconnection and local permitting.
- Coordinate with Independent Engineers and third-party inspectors.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Development and Preconstruction teams to shape project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
- Transition projects from development into execution, ensuring all preconstruction deliverables are in place.
- Oversee project turnover to the Asset Management team at completion, ensuring smooth transition of DG assets into long-term operations.
- Strategic Input
- Support process improvement across project delivery, including standardizing reporting and project controls.
- Contribute lessons learned to improve future project planning and execution.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- 5-7+ years of project management experience in renewable energy (PV, BESS, or hybrid projects).
- Demonstrated success managing budgets, schedules, and contracts for multiple DG-scale renewable energy projects within an IPP or developer-operator environment.
- Strong leadership skills; able to delegate effectively and manage through others.
- Clear and effective communicator with prior experience managing diverse stakeholders (contractors, utilities, investors).
- Proficiency with MS Office and project scheduling tools (MS Project or equivalent).
- Comfortable with regular travel (30%, typically 1-2 days per week).
- Strong knowledge of contract administration, risk management, project scheduling, and project finance interfaces.
- Preferred: prior field experience in a similar role (to enable effective oversight and delegation).
The anticipated salary range for this role is $157,000- $183,000 per year + bonus.
Compensation will be influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, job-related knowledge, skills, education, certifications, and relevant experience as outlined in the job description above.
