About Blue J
Blue J is the leading generative AI research and drafting solution for tax experts. We’re a B2B SaaS company whose customers are accountants and lawyers, and our AI-tax research software is the best in the market.
We are racing ahead with an exciting product development roadmap to continue to delight our customers and to ensure that our users can generate the very best possible tax research answers in the service of their clients in record time.
Since launching our flagship Generative AI product, we have blown past our revenue targets quarter over quarter. We've also just announced our
$122M USD Series D funding, and are looking for a US Tax Research Associate to help scale our tax expertise and shape the next generation of AI-powered tax research tool.
A Note on Location
This is a remote-first position, open to candidates legally eligible to work in the United States. For in-person collaboration, you’ll have the opportunity to travel to our Toronto office twice a year to connect with the broader team.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a CPA-certified tax professional with 3 to 6 years of experience in US federal income tax, ideally from a mid-market accounting firm.
Our ideal candidate is well-versed in federal income tax. As a Tax Research Associate, you will use your tax expertise to play a central role in continuing to develop Blue J, our large language model-enabled tax research tool. As a key member of our growing team of tax researchers, you’ll have the unique opportunity to participate in building the next generation of world-class tax research tools.
In this role, you will gain invaluable experience and learn from some of the best in the field of AI and tax. While we’re an AI company, experience in AI is not required. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about developing technology that will transform tax practice for tax professionals, and you’ll be instrumental in helping our team as we move this mission forward and take Blue J to new heights.
If this sounds like something that you’re excited about, we would love to meet you! We’re a team of passionate, driven, and friendly people all working towards the same goal, and are excited to welcome a new US Tax Research Associate to our team!
What You’ll be Doing
- Tax Research. You will use your excellent tax research skills and knowledge to quickly locate relevant primary and secondary sources using standard tax research skills; understand and summarize tax law questions in multiple areas and jurisdictions; evaluate sources for accuracy and currency; efficiently analyze source documents to support your analysis; adapt quickly to researching new jurisdictions and different areas of tax law; and assess the quality and accuracy of AI-generated tax analysis.
- Process Awareness: You will apply your understanding of accounting firm workflows to help align our product with real-world use cases. This insight will be critical in refining our solution for broader adoption.
- Teamwork. You will use your tax knowledge to work with other experienced tax professionals, and alongside a team of analysts and data scientists to develop and improve our AI tools. You will build strong relationships with the entire tax research team and the data science team, working collaboratively and learning from each other. You will thrive in our environment where diverse thoughts are welcome and innovation is encouraged. Experience in machine learning and data science is not necessary – just an open mind and an eagerness to collaborate.
- Strategic thinking. As a core member of our product team, you will have a sense of pride and ownership, constantly thinking strategically and critically about how we can continuously improve the Blue J products.
- Evolving based on client needs. Our goal is to work in true partnership with our clients (tax professionals) by attending to their feedback, troubleshooting, and incorporating their recommendations to consistently and reliably add value. A key skill in this role is adaptability and openness to new ideas.
