Job Summary:
Serves as the second in charge for each of the sections to work closely with the supervisor and in the absence of the supervisor. Helps to supervise the laboratory personnel in the section. Performs laboratory tests, operates laboratory equipment, and reports results (for clinical sections only). Participates in quality assurance activities. Facilitates intralaboratory and intra-section communications. Helps to maintain adequate scheduling for the section. Helps to manage new employee orientation for the section. Helps the supervisor to ensure section compliance with CAP guidelines. Monitors inventory. Participates in problem-solving as needed. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed.

- Must be able to help maintain inventory for the section.
- Must be accessible through telephone number provided and follow staffing guidelines for staffing during internal and external disasters.

- Must monitor Outstanding List, Quality Control, and Lot Numbers and be able to resolve issues concerning any of these.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate the ability to microscopically identify yeast, parasites, and differentiate Gram positive/gram negative bacteria.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
B.S. degree in Medical Laboratory Science (Medical Technology) or A.S. degree in Medical Laboratory Technology required.
Work Experience:
Four years as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or six years as a Medical Laboratory Technician required.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE

Mental Demands:
Ability to prioritize and organize tasks, communicate and cooperate with other hospital personnel, and
with blood service staff, perform test procedures, quality control procedures and report results, perform
repetitive tasks, problem solve, assure adequate scheduling, and function under stress.
