Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Functional Test Engineer to join our team and lead the development and execution of functional testing processes for jet engine components. This role will focus on tests including pressure, flow, flush, and cleanliness testing of components and subassemblies, ensuring they meet stringent aerospace quality standards and functional specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute test procedures for pressure, flow, flush, and cleanliness validation of jet engine components.
- Design or select appropriate test equipment, fixtures, and instrumentation to ensure accurate and repeatable results.
- Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and cleanliness requirements to define test parameters.
- Troubleshoot test anomalies and work cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain and calibrate test rigs and equipment in accordance with internal procedures and industry standards.
- Collect and analyze test data; prepare comprehensive reports and document results in accordance with company and customer requirements.
- Support the transition of new components into production by developing robust test methods and validating performance early in the product lifecycle.
- Assist with the development of standard work, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives in the testing process.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and environmental regulations related to testing operations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor"s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in functional testing of aerospace or high-performance mechanical components.
- Strong understanding of pressure and flow measurement techniques, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
- Familiarity with aerospace cleanliness standards (e.g., NAS 1638, ISO 4406) and flush testing protocols.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, GD&T, and component specifications.
- Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, DMAIC).
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the aerospace or defense industry with exposure to jet engine hardware.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement principles.
- Working knowledge of LabVIEW, PLCs, or other control/data acquisition software.
- Prior experience with automated or semi-automated test systems.
