The Manager of Corporate Accounting plays a critical leadership role within a Bermuda-based life and annuity insurance company. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Accounting, this role oversees core corporate accounting operations, supports financial close activities, and ensures compliance with U.S. GAAP and Bermuda statutory accounting requirements. The Manager leads a team of corporate accountants and is responsible for maintaining accurate and timely general ledger reporting, supporting audits, and enhancing accounting processes. Proficiency with SAP S/4HANA and a solid understanding of insurance-related financial operations are essential for success.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day corporate accounting function, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial close activities.
- Supervise and mentor a team of corporate accountants to deliver accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, U.S. GAAP, U.S. Stat and Bermuda regulatory requirements.
- Review and approve general ledger entries and account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and alignment with policy.
- Prepare and review monthly management and quarterly and annual board financial reporting (U.S. Stat, U.S. GAAP and Bermuda regulatory) and analytics.
- Prepare and review annual U.S. GAAP audited financial statements and supporting documentation, including footnote disclosures and schedules.
- Prepare quarterly and annual non-GAAP disclosures and supporting documents.
- Support external and internal audit processes, including coordination of requested schedules and documentation.
- Work closely with the Director of Corporate Accounting and cross-functional teams (e.g., investment accounting, treasury, tax, actuarial) on accounting, reporting and analyzing results.
- Coordinate with external tax consultants with preparation of state and federal tax returns, including gathering supporting documents, registering with new states, responding to state requests, reconciling support to returns and filing returns and payments prepared by tax consultants.
- Oversee the booking of operating expenses and oversee and assist in preparation of monthly actual to budget operating expense analysis.
- Continuously evaluate and enhance accounting processes for efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Serve as a key user and subject matter expert on SAP S/4HANA in support of financial operations and reporting.
- Participate in the adoption of new accounting policies or system changes as the organization grows.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or equivalent international designation preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management capacity.
- Experience in life and annuity insurance is required.
- Experience in reinsurance is preferred.
- Proficiency in SAP S/4HANA is an asset.
- Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and U.S. Stat accounting and reporting is required.
- Knowledge of Bermuda Stat accounting and reporting is an asset.

- Assists the Director in staffing, team structure, and succession planning.
Location and Travel
