To perform routine preventative, restorative and corrective cleaning of the facility. Follow seven-step cleaning, terminal cleaning, waste, and biohazard removal/handling, and working in maintaining sanitary conditions in public areas, resident areas, and surgical rooms. Follow policies and procedures, ensure standards of cleaning/sanitizing are met, and always follow safe work practices. Daily documentation of OR terminal cleaning. Train and provide feedback to Environmental Service Worker(S) in Surgical Units. This occupant of this senior position will serve as a key liaison between the clinical staff and EVS leadership. The ideal occupant will be an expert in terminal cleaning and surgical area cleaning and disinfecting protocol and will be capable of demonstrating standards and competencies to others.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):
- Preferably high school graduate or equivalency.
- Ability to read and follow simple directions.
- Experience in healthcare or related housekeeping for at least 12 months preferred.
- Possess a strong ability to gain knowledge of cleaning procedures, including the use of chemicals, products, and equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position is located indoors under normal working conditions. You should be able to push/pull 50 lb., lift/move 50 lb. from floor to table, be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations, such as using EVS equipment, and must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination, such as burnishing, buffing, scrubbing, and vacuuming. Mobility requirements may include the ability to stand at a workstation for a prolonged period, operating floor and housekeeping equipment, in addition to being able to walk, squat, and walk for a reasonable length of time and distance. Sensory requirements include the ability to articulate and comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to read the English language.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
- Performs daily cleaning and sanitizing using the “Seven-Step Cleaning Process”, including removal of general & regulated medical waste or project work in an assigned area.
- Communicate daily with patients, nursing staff, physicians, and immediate supervisors regarding the need for discharge cleaning and other miscellaneous cleaning. Communicate with supervisors to attend specific projects for each unit.
- Responsible for using basic housekeeping equipment, i.e., mop pails, mops, dust mops, standard upright vacuums, and cleaning equipment (buffers, automatic scrubbers, carpet extractors, wide-area vacuums).
- Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing rooms with the potential for exposure to infectious diseases.
- Responsible for moving and setting up of equipment, furniture and other items.
- Cleaning of the OR and any surgical areas, including cardiac catheterization lab, day surgery, labor and delivery, and post-anesthesia recovery units (PACU) with detailed cleaning of medical equipment.
- Turn over surgical patient rooms in a timely manner for the next surgical case.
- Provide training, coaching, and feedback to Surgical Unit Environmental Service Workers.
- Ensures compliance with all standards and regulations in the OR/Surgical environment by all Environmental Services personnel.
- Performs quality assurance inspections, including visual audits, black light inspections, and terminal clean observations.
- Act as the first line of communication between OR clinical staff and EVS leadership; attend relevant clinical meetings and huddles.
- Document and maintain cleaning and equipment records.
- Responds promptly to customer requests, provides excellent customer service and collaborates with other departments throughout the organization.
- Keep rooms and hallways clear of surplus equipment and/or furniture
- Maintain scrub sinks clean and stocked
- Keep walls and cabinets free of soil
- Additional tasks and duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $ 17.46-$25.32 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
