POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Financial Counselor is responsible for receiving and posting cash, check and credit card payments to the institution. Responsible for answering patient questions regarding balances on their accounts, and appropriately routing the patient to the appropriate staff member for additional assistance, and the filtering of customer billing related requests. In doing so works closely with Patient Financial Services staff. Performs related clerical duties and provides support for Patient Financial Services, as well as the Central Billing Office.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma/General Education Degree(GED).
- 2 years of customer service experience.
- Ability to Operate computer, copy machine, fax, switchboard, calculator, credit card machine.
- Ability to read and understand charge and payment transaction, including insurance transactions, posted to patient accounts.
- Knowledge and understanding of Insurance payment practices, including but not limited to deductible, coinsurance, copayments, policy exclusions and denial terminology and the ability to explain these to others.
- Ability to accurately balance cash drawer on a daily basis.
- Ability to ask for payments on accounts.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment meeting daily deadlines, while maintaining a calm and customer service friendly environment.
PREFERRED:
- 2 years of cashier/collections experience in a healthcare setting.
- Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist (CRCS) from the American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM).
