Job Description:
Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist and/or the director of pharmacy services, performs a variety of technical and clerical duties for the hospital-wide unit dose drug distribution system and intravenous admixture program. Responsible to maintaining confidential reports, entering and retrieving data utilizing the computer system, preparing intravenous medication, including but not limited to: chemotherapeutic preparations, hyper-alimentations and antibiotics, filling automated medication dispensing machines with a supply of unit dose medications, procuring, and filling requests for pharmaceutical supplies and deliver supplies to nursing units.
Responsibilities:
Prepares and fills unit-dose medication. Performs medication exchange at the appropriate times to the designated nursing units, transports medications from the pharmacy to the nursing units and clinics as needed, Accurately and efficiently performs initial medication order entry, Assists in the preparation of sterile intravenous admixtures, which may include chemotherapeutics, Performs clerical functions such as maintaining prescription files, billing records, controlled substance documentation, Maintains adequate levels of drugs, intravenous solutions, and other supplies in the dispensing and admixture areas, Maintains adequate levels and accurate stock of drugs in AcuDose Dispensing System on nursing units, Checks for discontinued IV admixture solutions and antibiotic piggyback solutions in nursing unit refrigerator, Fills and prices department drug stock-supply requisitions, Assists in outpatient prescription preparation under pharmacist supervision.
Education/Credentials:
High School or Equivalent (GED) preferred
Registration with MO Board of Pharmacy within 90 days if not certified at hire
Pharmacy Technician Certification at hire or within nine months of hire
1-3 years hospital experience
Starting Range: $18.29 - $20.12
