Behavioral Center of Michigan is currently seeking a Nurse Supervisor. The Nurse Supervisor will be responsible for quality nursing care and overall supervision of nursing staff members. The Nurse Supervisor is responsible for initiating disciplinary action in the Nurse Manager’s absence for his/her particular shift.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Current status as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan; Bachelor’s degree in nursing (preferred), 3 to 5 years of psychiatric experience with 1 to 2 year of supervisory experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Uses the nursing process to ensure appropriate delivery of nursing care.
• Has a working knowledge of the Center’s administrative policies and procedures.
• Has a working knowledge of the nursing services policies and procedures.
• Adjusts staffing as needed to ensure proper coverage according to designated staff/patient ratios in collaboration with Nurse Manager.
• Responsible for replacement of staff persons who are scheduled but unable to work.
• Familiar with staffing schedule and matrix to ensure appropriate staffing ratios.
• Generally responsible for personally covering the shift and handling Staff Nurse duties.
• Monitors and evaluates nursing care given by auditing charts and documentation of nursing staff to ensure nursing policies and procedures are being followed.
• Provides supervision to staff nurses and mental health technicians on his/her designated shift, including disciplinary action.
• Participates with the CNO and other nursing managers in the development of therapeutic programs for the unit and particularly for his/her designated shift.
• Serves as a role model for quality nursing care.
• Participates in orientation program for new employees and in-service education for shift employees when needed.
• Serves as a preceptor for new employees, or coordinates orientation with the preceptor designated by the CNO for the specific shift assigned.
• Directly responsible for all admissions during shift, and for following the admission policy and procedures.
• Receives the intake information and verifies the admission with the Medical Director or Designee physician.
• Directs activities in all emergency situations, including fire, internal and external disasters, and environmental hazards according to procedures.
• Participates in the evaluation process for the staff in collaboration with the Nurse Managers.
• Applies restraints or imposes seclusion in an emergency situation, notifying the patient’s physician for orders as soon as possible within the guidelines of the Seclusion and Restraint Policy. Reviews policy and procedures on a regular basis.
• Administers medication.
• Ensures that patients and families are oriented to the Center and the unit, and deals with family members in a professional, caring manner.
