Rivet is an American company developing hardened systems for industrial workforces and defense personnel. In an era when skilled workers are retiring and global competition demands data-driven action, we aim to multiply the effectiveness of every individual. We stand for renewed frontline grit, elevated for decisive outcomes in all environments.
Technicians, maintainers, first responders, engineers, and trade specialists. Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines. They embody the hard work, meritocratic values, and ingenuity that drives western prosperity. Yet they're forced to rely on outdated tools that fail under modern pressures.
The front lines can't win when they are in last place for new technologies. Rivet exists to reset priorities.
Whether they build our vehicles, maintain our infrastructure, or defend our civilization, our working heroes deserve tools that withstand the weight they carry. Rivet is delivering new capabilities where they matter most.
We are committed to the people who take on the world's most challenging missions.
Role Description
We"re building the control plane for the physical world, a server-based management console that centralizes real-time data from thousands of devices, drives enterprise-grade policy enforcement, software deployment orchestration, workflow automation, and fleet-wide observability. This is a greenfield opportunity to design and own critical infrastructure from the ground up. We need someone who's comfortable operating with high autonomy, making decisions, and driving delivery across backend and infrastructure.
The Role
- Implement core backend services that power our management console - fleet operations, policy engine, software rollout systems, device state tracking, telemetry ingestion, orchestration layers, and more.
- Design and code web-based interface for navigating devices and aggregating information, dashboards, inventory, etc.
- Define and evolve API contracts between the console, connected devices, and 3rd-party enterprise systems.
- Collaborate directly with engineering, firmware, and field teams to ensure tight device-to-cloud integration and rapid iteration.
- Knowledge of device lifecycle states, enrollment flows, provisioning systems, or OTA software delivery.
- Set technical direction, advocate for best practices, and help define our engineering culture.
- Work with a high-autonomy, high-impact team that values clean design, fast iteration, and practical innovation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Have 5+ years of backend or full-stack experience, ideally having owned major systems in production.
- Frontend experience with modern frameworks (React, TypeScript) for building rich dashboards and workflows.
- Have designed and scaled distributed systems in the cloud (AWS, GCP, etc.), with real-time or batch processing workloads.
- Know your way around backend languages like Go, Python, Node.js, or similar, and are comfortable choosing the right tool for the job.
- Have experience with telemetry pipelines, event-driven architectures (Kafka, Pub/Sub, etc.), and modern data stores (Postgres, DynamoDB, etc.).
- Familiarity with observability and monitoring platforms (Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, etc.)
- Have worked with or integrated into enterprise systems (e.g., Okta, ServiceNow, SCCM, Intune, etc.).
- Exposure to policy engines, declarative config systems, or orchestration frameworks.
- Experience in edge computing, embedded systems, or managing device firmware/software at scale.
- Experience in device lifecycle management, OTA software updates, MDM/EMM platforms, or infrastructure-as-code tools
