Summary
Prepares initial/progressive exercise prescription based on the patient's medical record, graded exercise test, clinical condition, and clinical assessment. Revises exercise prescription based on patient's response to therapy. Collaborates with physician and Registered Nurse in care of the patient in Phase 1 (inpatient) and (Phases 2 and 3) outpatient cardiac and pulmonary rehab programs. Measures and evaluates patient's physiological and symptomatic response to exercise. Educate the patient/family, staff, Hospital personnel, and community regarding cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation benefits in chronic disease management.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of one of the following:
Master's degree in exercise physiology or related field and certification through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) or Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCEP). If not certified at the time of hire, must be eligible for certification and obtain certification as a CEP within 12 months of hire.
Bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology or related field and current certification through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) or Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCEP).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification, or ability to obtain certification within three months of hire.
Fundamental understanding of personal computers and familiarity with the Windows operating system and Microsoft software programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous work and/or internship experience in cardiac/pulmonary rehab.
Experience in exercise prescription, education, and counseling participants with chronic disease or individuals with risk factors for coronary artery disease.
