About The Role

At Forterra, you will be a part of a team that tackle planning problems in diverse domains such as complex, unstructured off-road terrain, coordinated formation control and in semi-structured areas such as yards for a variety of robot platforms ranging in size from a side-by-side to a semi-truck.
Consistent with this fast growth, members of our Behavior Generation team must be resourceful, creative, and eager to take ownership of complex technical matters.
What You"ll Do
- Develop real-time (deterministic, randomized and optimization based) path and motion planning algorithms for various vehicle types (ackermann, skid-steered, wheeled, tracked) using C++ in a Linux Environment
- Design and implement state machine logic for mode management.
- Design and implement messaging for synchronization, logging and debugging.
- Integrate, test and evaluate performance of software in simulation and on-vehicle.
- Work with cross functional teams to ensure reliable and effective vehicle behavior.
- Travel up to 20 percent to support on-site vehicle testing.What We"re Looking For:
- BS, MS or PhD in Robotics, Applied Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
- Strong background in path planning, motion planning, manipulator planning and task and high level planning.
- Strong programming skills in C++.
- Solid core software engineering skills: software design, unit testing, debugging.
- Ability to consistently deliver production-quality software in a continuously integrated environment.
- Demonstrates clean, maintainable code and documentation practices.
- Experience working in teams and a willingness to proactively solve problems.
What We Love to See:
- Prior experience in planning for unmanned ground vehicles operating outdoors.
- Expertise with GPU or ML tookits such as CUDA, Pytorch, TensorFlow and/or TensorRT
US Salary Range
$120,000—$165,000
The salary range for this role is an estimate and is based on a wide variety of compensation factors. The salary offered to candidates will vary based on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) relevant work experience, education, specialized training, critical expertise, training, and more. Equity in Forterra is included in most of our full-time, high-demand roles and is therefore considered part of Forterra's overall compensation package. In addition to base salary and equity, Forterra offers competitive benefits for full-time employees including:
