About Public Law Center
Founded in 1981, The Public Law Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing free legal services to low income residents and other nonprofits in Orange County. Last year, Public Law Center staff and volunteers provided over 65,000 hours of free legal services in handling over 4,500 cases benefiting low-income children, adults and seniors. The estimated value of this work is roughly $60 million in just the past three years. Our services include counseling, individual representation, community education and strategic policy advocacy and impact litigation to challenge societal injustices.
About the role
The Grants Coordinator will support PLC's development efforts by assisting with the preparation, tracking, and reporting of government and foundation grants. Reporting to the Grants Manager, this role will work closely with program staff, finance, and leadership to help ensure effective grants management and compliance. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and committed to PLC's mission of advancing justice. This position is part of the organization's Development and Outreach Team.
What you"ll do
- Assist the Grants Manager with preparing and submitting grant proposals, applications, renewals, and reports.
- Maintain the grants calendar and help ensure internal deadlines are met
- Help track grant requirements, deliverables, and compliance using PLC's database systems
- Coordinate with program and finance staff to gather data, narratives, and documentation needed for reports and applications.
- Support efforts to improve grants tracking systems and data organization.
- Maintain digital and hard copy grant files in accordance with funder and audit requirements
- Assist with research on prospective funders, especially public funding opportunities.
- Assist with creating and maintaining a bank of client testimonials and stories.
- Support the Grants Manager with other administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.
- 1–2 years of experience in a nonprofit environment preferred, especially in legal services.
- Prior experience with grants or fundraising preferred, especially government grants (e.g., VOCA, state/county contracts).
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work collaboratively across departments.
- Strong experience with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
- Ability to learn new software systems; familiarity with LegalServer or other legal case management systems preferred.

Salary & Benefits
- Salary Range: $25–$30 per hour (equivalent to $52,000–$62,400 annually), commensurate with experience
