SR Media Relations Strategist

The Senior Media Relations Strategist reports to the Manager, Strategic Communications and is an integral member of the Beacon Health System Marketing department. This person leads the development and drives the implementation of an external communications strategy for Beacon Health System that builds our reputation, fosters engagement, and drives conversations with external stakeholders and media. This person will be responsible for identifying and promoting story ideas to local, regional and national media, furthering relationships for with prioritized media outlets and developing compelling multi-platform content. This person is an expert in storytelling that is compelling and successfully engages key stakeholders with our organization’s mission and strategic business priorities. This person will also play a key role in positioning on key topics, market visibility, and community outreach. Also responsible for crisis communications.
The Sr. Media Relations Strategist will work on multiple projects, including content for social and owned media and work collaboratively with colleagues across Marketing, clinical services areas, and other key stakeholders to accomplish defined objectives.

Media Relations Strategist:
- Develop and implement near and long-term strategic media goals, strategies, tactics and integrated communications strategy initiatives for a variety of external platforms
- Identify and promote story ideas to local, regional and national media, further relationships with prioritized media outlets and develop compelling content aligned to strategic priorities. Distribute stories via email, web, social media, etc.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to develop messaging platforms for issues and opportunities
- Coach and prepare senior leaders to serve as effective media spokespersons, positioning them as thought leaders in their areas of expertise
- Serve as key media contact and spokesperson 24/7; Manage timely and appropriate responses to media inquiries.
- Responsible for crisis communications.
- Participate on the Emergency Preparedness committee and serve as the Public Information Officer when necessary.
- Coordinate visits by media to by making arrangements for filming/interviews on site including in offices, operating rooms, clinics, patient rooms, etc., ensuring appropriate consent is obtained and activities do not disrupt normal patient care activities.
- Maintain knowledge of emerging media trends and nontraditional media strategies and tactics
- Identify media movements and trends across key subject areas for OTC Markets and proactive outreach opportunities.
- Provide ongoing strategic communications counsel including reputation management
- Assist with shooting video and photos to tell stories.
- Develop and manage media events.
- Regularly do story prospecting with key stakeholders, leaders from assigned beats.
- Monitor, analyze, and communicate results on a regular basis.
- Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed.

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Broadcasting, Public Relations, English or related field. Seven or more years of related experience required. Healthcare experience preferred.

- Strong media relations skills and demonstrated ability to garner positive coverage
- Expertise in social media as it relates to corporate communications and reputation management
- Leadership presence and influence – engages audience and projects subject matter expertise
- Superior communication and writing skills, expert in Associated Press style with the ability to develop and edit high-quality materials
- Photo, video and video editing skills
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail with the ability to juggle multiple relationships and projects covering a wide range of issues; ability to pivot quickly and without losing momentum.
