Job Summary: School psychologists are hired by school systems and responsible for providing support to students who face emotional, social, behavioral and academic challenges. School Psychologists help school children get the counseling services they need to succeed in school and in life.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with parents, teachers and school administrators to understand what counseling services would best work for the students to be treated. (possibly a referral)
- Provide counseling services (group or individual) to families and teachers, while connecting them to resources that can help address problems in the classroom and at home.
- Administer tests as a way to identify what is getting in the way of a student’s learning potential
- Results of the assessment process allow for identification of learning disabilities or ruling out any disabilities, assist in recommending placement, screening, counseling and/or therapeutic techniques for children and parents.
- Reports are written using data from the assessment, teacher interviews and observations. The report is shared as part of the Individualized Education Plan team to determine appropriate school placement.
- Consultation with teachers, school administrators and parents
Qualifications:
- Provide psych-educational assessments to support identification of specific learning, social emotional or any of the thirteen learning disabilities outlined in The Individual with Disabilities Education Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Family Educational and Privacy Rights Act.
- Keep detailed, confidential records of all incidents, reports and services provided.
- Work as an interventionist as well as a counselor
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- 3-5 years’ experience as a School Psychologist

- Hearing and speaking to conduct group training, exchange information in person electronically and over the telephone.
- Ability to read printed material and computer screens. Ability to understand speech at normal levels
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment
- Kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and store files and supplies.
- Ability to climb stairs, bend, reach, walk, sit and stand for extended periods of time. Ability to lift and carry 10 pounds.
