Long-Term Substitute Teacher Overview
The Substitute Teacher provides day-to-day coverage on a time-limited basis in the absence of a Classroom Teacher. Ensures the continuity of educational instruction to assigned students within a classroom. Provides supervision and feedback to classroom staff regarding ongoing implementation of the IEP and BSP for each student. Implements and models highly technical clinical and teaching programs that require staff to be constantly alert and ready to respond to student’s needs. Requires that staff be aware that students who are served may exhibit aggressive and/or self-injurious behavior. Assists with assessments or program development, commensurate with their training and experience. Assists with formal staff appraisals and/or corrective action with assistance and support from the Behavior Analyst or Director.

- Monday- Friday 8am-4:30p

Salary Information
- Level 1 SPED teacher cert or emergency cert with bachelor’s degree: $61,360.00 (+) based on years of experience
- Level 1 SPED teacher with master’s degree: $65, 520.00 (+) based on years of experience
- Level 2 SPED teacher cert or master’s degree plus BCBA: $71,760.00 (+) based on years of experience
Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, Human Service Field or Psychology.
- Special Education certification by the Pennsylvania Department of Education preferred, but not required. If a candidate does not possess this certification must be enrolled or planning to be enrolled in program.
- A valid US driver’s license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old. Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status.
- Prefer at least one year experience working in a classroom setting with specialized populations.
Long-Term Substitute Teacher Responsibilities
- Maintains Level of Supervision (LOS) for assigned individual(s) at all times and ensures that all classroom staff follow assigned LOS. Designates or changes assigned students based on each student’s needs and/ or if assigned LOS cannot be maintained for any length of time.
- Implements all procedures as written in each individual’s Behavior Support Plan and/or Protocol Summary.
- Accurately collects data on all targeted behaviors for acceleration and declaration on assigned student(s) as indicated in Behavior Support Plan and/or Protocol Summary
- Creates student-specific daily schedules, location schedules, reinforcement schedules or task boards appropriate to each student’s individual needs. Ensures that all visual supports are neat, organized, and updated with all necessary items at all times.
- Responds appropriately during crisis (i.e., utilizing only approved crisis management techniques, being calm and composed, or acting quickly to protect others) as indicated in the crisis prevention training curriculum or each student’s Behavior Support Plan (BSP).
- Attends biweekly review meetings for all assigned student, as specified by the review schedule. Ensures coverage of meeting when unavoidable conflicts exist.
- Summarizes academic data, presents data during review meetings and develops proposals about any necessary changes based on progress or lack of progress on goals.
- Creates teaching plan for each IEP goal as soon as the IEP document is finalized.
- Implements all procedures as written in each individual’s Teaching Plans. Ensure that all education staff are also trained to proficiency on the implementation and data collection of all teaching plans.
- Accurately collects data and ensures that classroom staff collect data for all Teaching Plans at the time of the instructional session.
- Authors and ensures that quarterly reports and ESY report are submitted to supervising Behavior Analyst by assigned due date, per each student’s IEP annual date.
- Provides classroom staff with appropriate supervision including feedback tool implementation and delivery of supervision tools according to schedules of implementation.
