JOB SUMMARY (THROUGH EVIDENCE-BASED TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT, THESE SKILLS WILL BE OBTAINED)
The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of safe and effective patient-centered care in a variety of settings based on education, knowledge, skill set, and competency. The Registered Nurse communicates with physicians/ managers/co-workers, as appropriate, about changes in the patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in the departments with adequate supervision. Participate in performance improvement activities.
DEPARTMENT KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical-surgical setting. Communicates with physician/manager/co-workers, as appropriate about changes in patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in the departments with adequate supervision.
- Evaluates patients identifying those at risk for falls and implements the appropriate protocols
- Exhibits appropriate use of the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of the following disease entities: COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, anticoagulation therapy, total knee/hip replacement, cholecystectomy, CHF, UTI, MRSA infections, Detox, cancer, pain management
- Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities.
- Demonstrates knowledge of standards for restraints and seclusion, i.e. Restraint and Seclusion protocol, physician orders, documentation and reporting, and patient rights and teaching.
- Knowledgeable of Infection Control, TB, Blood-borne Pathogens and Hazardous waste plans.
Education / Experience / License and Certifications
- Current unrestricted Wyoming Registered Nurse Licensure or unrestricted compact nurse license.
- Nursing degree, required.
- BLS, required.
Specific demands not listed: Possible exposure to blood and or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products.
