MSH NR BIRTH ROOM REGISTRY RN
Chicago-IL-60290-United States
Mount Sinai Hospital's Perinatal Services includes our Labor & Delivery Unit which includes 14 large, private birthing suites, one of which is designed to provide an alternative experience with a hydrotherapy tub. We have two operating rooms where our cesarean births and other obstetric related surgeries are performed by our own team of surgeons, scrub techs and nurses. We have obstetric residents which greatly contribute to the overall education of caregivers on the unit.
As a level 3 Perinatal Center, we provide compassionate, family-centered care to women with normal pregnancies as well as high-risk complex medical issues. With over 2500 births per year and 6,000 OB Triage visits per year, this unit is busy 24/7 with challenging and rewarding birthing experiences for the women we serve in the Lawndale/Ogden and surrounding communities. Our physician teams include two obstetricians running the birthing rooms at all times. We have maternal fetal medicine specialists on staff and we have every specialty available on consultation. We also have a close relationship with neonatologists who reside just a few feet away in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
We work closely with our perinatal social worker who helps link our patients to support services and provide help for the complex medical and social problems our families have. Our nurses are well-trained in electronic fetal monitoring which is reviewed annual at our Perinatal Skills Fair along with many other pertinent topics to encourage learning and honing these specialized skills necessary to work in this dynamic and high-risk birthing environment. Our nurses have onsite training in NRP and ACLS, which also prepares them for the work. Our own nurse educator provides in-services and continuing education for our nurses throughout the year.
Mount Sinai Hospital is on the "Baby-Friendly Hospital" designation journey so we honor the newborn's first hour of life with skin-to-skin contact and encouragement of breastfeeding. Our nurses enjoy the close relationship established with their patients and the families appreciate it, too. We have had Daisy nurse awards given to two of our nurses in the past year. While we do have required on-call, we provide online self-scheduling to allow caregivers to have as much control over their work-life balance through scheduling as possible. In addition, we utilize online and on-call shifts to provide our nurses with the opportunity to pick up extra shifts flex staff and enhance continuity of care. Labor & Delivery is a fast-paced, dynamic unit requiring all your nursing expertise to meet the physical and emotional needs of our patients' at the most important time of their lives. Close teamwork is what makes it all work--come join our team!
