Position Summary
-
Under general supervision; takes diagnostic exams with utilization of radiation, magnetic fields and RF fields. Utilization of the CT scanners to perform exams of patient anatomy. Also performs related work as required. CT Technologists ensure all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care.

Unit Specific Position Responsibilities
- Performs diagnostic procedures on neonatal through geriatric patients with imaging equipment.
- Positions the patient according to guidelines.
- Performs all routine and special procedures.
- Assembles paperwork required for procedures.
- Responsible for scheduling patients for exams.
- Under direct supervision of a physician, administers IV materials.
- Performs Quality Control and Quality Assurances procedures on CT scanners.
- Prepares patient exams and assists patient.
- Evaluates quality of procedures and prepares images for viewing.
- Assists in maintaining the cleanliness of department.
- Maintains and stocks supplies in department.
- Assists in instructing other personnel or students in CT areas.
- Assists in transferring patients to and from department as well as on and off exam tables.
- Performs related work as required.
- Performs other assigned duties
- Considers age, growth and development of the patient when planning, teaching and providing care.
- Documents and maintains data on patient’s electronic and paper record.
- Assures safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families, visitors, and staff.
- Participates and maintains quality improvement initiatives to promote positive patient outcomes.
- Assists patient, families, and visitors with various needs and utilizes specific communication tools to enhance customer service.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
-
Completion of a 24 month American Medical Association approved course in Radio-logic Technology.

Possession of certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Possession of current Iowa Permit to Practice.
-
Certification in BLS for Healthcare Providers.

Mandatory Reporter training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.

Organizational Requirements:

Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
-
Six months of experience working in all aspects of CT Scanning.
-
Knowledge of all diagnostic CT Scanning procedures; knowledge of parameters of film quality; knowledge of patient positioning; knowledge of film development; some knowledge of records to be maintained.

Ability to perform diagnostic CT Scanning procedures; ability to position patients; ability to quality check electronic images as well as developed film; ability to develop film; ability to prepare records.

Knowledge of basic arithmetic, algebra and geometry, and their applications

Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Active Listening skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for adolescent through geriatric patients.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in English.
