Position Overview:
Akicita Federal is seeking a qualified and compassionate Nutritionist/Nutrition Educator to provide comprehensive medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and patient-centered dietary education as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team. This role supports Indian Health Service (IHS) patients by promoting culturally appropriate nutrition and wellness practices across various clinical settings, including outpatient, inpatient, and community health.
Key Responsibilities:
-Conduct individualized nutrition assessments and develop evidence-based nutrition care plans tailored to patient needs.
-Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease.
-Educate patients and families on healthy eating habits, label reading, and culturally relevant meal planning.
-Support interdisciplinary care by collaborating with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other allied health professionals.
-Deliver group classes, health promotion events, and community outreach programs focused on nutrition and wellness.
-Document all patient interactions in the electronic health record system (e.g., RPMS/EHR) in a timely and accurate manner.
-Participate in quality improvement projects, audits, and program development related to nutrition services.
-Provide training and guidance to paraprofessional staff or diet technician aides as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field from an accredited institution.
-Current registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
-State licensure (if applicable) or eligibility to obtain licensure in the state of assignment.
-Minimum of 2 years of professional experience providing clinical nutrition services.
-Proficiency in using electronic medical records and Microsoft Office Suite.
-Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience working in IHS, tribal, or rural healthcare environments.
-Knowledge of Native American dietary patterns, cultural preferences, and community health practices.
-BLS Certification (may be required based on duty location).
