Summary of Position
The Registered Nurse provides trauma-informed care to clients and supports all members of the client’s care team to promote maximum wellness and recovery. This leader works directly with the Chief Medical Officer, operationalizing changes to agency policy to promote clinical excellence.
Responsibilities
- Provides administrative oversight of daily operations by directly assigning tasks to certified medical assistants (CMAs).
- Maintains supply of depot medication, needles, syringes, and their disposal in accordance PBHG policy including maintaining sample log and properly disposes of wasted and outdated medications using destruction log.
- Assists in responding to medical emergencies and ensure completion of documentation in electronic record and administrative alert.
- Organize and maintain sample medication cabinet and inventory in accordance with PBHG policy.
- Orders and maintains inventory of needed nursing supplies and destruction of sharps via Stericycle.
- Takes client vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, height, weight and body mass index (BMI), and documents in electronic record.
- Administers medication injections as prescribed by Psychiatrists and Advanced Practice Nurses. Documents these in the electronic record.
- Assists Medical Assistants in obtaining pharmaceutical coverage and prior authorizations as needed.
- Liaison with Primary Care Physicians or other doctors involved with client’s care, as needed.
- Ensures clients are linked with primary care; confirms that release of information is on file or makes and documents referrals to a general practitioner.
- Provides urinalysis drug screening as needed and documents in electronic record.
- Coordinates lab work for prescribers.
- Arranges direct and in-direct training and education to PBHG staff on medical procedures including Narcan delivery, medical emergency management, infectious diseases, and general infection control practices.
- Assists in coordination of medication bridges and contacts pharmacies when needed. Documents all in electronic record.
- Acts as the primary point of contact for community partners that provide on-site medical testing and screening in partial care and intensive outpatient programs.
- Acts as a designee for PBHG Prescribers, supporting the maintenance of required documentation for all consumers in Clozapine System.
- Reviews lab results for WBC and ANC levels and reports abnormal WBC results to Psychiatrist or Nurse Practitioner immediately.
- Engages in team conferences with multidisciplinary teams.
- Attends meetings as assigned by leadership.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Competencies
- Demonstrates ability to perform basic computer functions as required by job responsibilities.
- Demonstrates ability to perform job functions with a minimum of supervision.
- Demonstrates familiarity with organizational policy and procedure.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing training program.
- Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of NJ.
- CPR/First Aid Certification.
- Prior experience in the mental health field preferred.
