PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS
- Oversees the preparation of federal and state income tax returns for non-for-profit and for-profit entities for the Children's Hospital System, Inc, and its subsidiaries
- Collaborates with external tax preparers to ensure timely completion of all tax returns and forms
- Collaborates with external auditors during financial audit and during tax audits
- Serves as a resource for staff and attorneys on income taxation matters
- Proactively managers tax considerations and compliance on programs and transactions
- Oversees and assists in the preparation of the Children's Health System Insurance, LLC (CHSIL) annual financial statements
- Works with the external auditors during the audit of CHSIL
- Works with Risk Management Team and oversees the maintenance of the stop loss runs for CHSIL
- Works with the actuaries in preparation and review of the annual actuary reports
- Provides guidance on insurance matters including captive accounting

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Accounting Manager is responsible for providing financial and operational analysis and oversight to an assigned functional area(s) including but not limited to financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cost reporting, contract development, reimbursement, general ledger analysis and reconciliation. A high level of independence in performance of the role and/or solution of problems is expected, however, demonstrated cooperation and collaboration is equally essential for successful functioning. Reports to department leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides leadership and oversight to the financial systems support areas.

Works collaboratively to summarize, analyze and interpret financial information for long range strategic planning.

Serves as a key liaison between finance, operating staff and other health system personnel on finance related information.

Develops and implements effective procedures and controls utilizing general accepted accounting principles to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the organization’s financial data.

Effectively communicates financial information and plans to facilitate informed decision making.

Attracts, motivates and coaches talent to achieve the corporate financial goals.

Develops, promotes and monitors a culture of efficient, results and customer oriented financial services.

Performs other duties as assigned.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
-
CPA designation required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a closely field.

Professional knowledge of areas of responsibility in order to plan and implement at a level normally acquired through five to seven years of progressively more responsible related work experience.

Familiarity with the application of budgeting techniques such as flexible or zero based budgeting required.

Must understand and be able to use the techniques of computerized accounting and general ledger systems as well as the technique of computerized system design and data management.

Requires analytical skills necessary to organize and oversee work of subordinates.

Demonstrated ability to direct the collection, preparation, analysis and presenting of financial and statistical data.

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills necessary.
-
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other comparable applications / systems.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
