Position Summary:
The Trauma PI Clinical Coordinator has accountability for the data integrity of the Trauma Program and ensures compliance with all regulatory entities governing trauma. He/she is responsible for generating all metric driven and reportable statistics, ensuring new processes are measured, reporting statistical data to all required entities, maintaining, and completing current and accurate Trauma Registry/PI databases. These databases contain patient-care information from the following phases of care: pre-hospital, emergency room, hospital course, and outcomes. This specialist will identify the root causes and their contributing factors both programmatically and those which directly affect the community. The specialist will work to create prevention efforts, in collaboration with all hospital leaders that focuses on education, enactment, enforcement and environmental changes through educational sessions with those internally and in the community, while monitoring the program’s effectiveness. He/she ensures the Performance Improvement/Patient Safety Plan for the Trauma Program, and the organization is upheld and is accountable for reporting any breeches of the PI Plan, failure to follow evidence-based guidelines or other patient/programmatic safety issues directly to the program director, or VP.
Position Qualifications:
Education/Training: Associates Degree required, Bachelors Preferred. College course work in a medical field of expertise, such as nursing, health information administration, or related field. Completion of the Trauma Registry Course, ICD-10 Course, AIS 2015 Course, and TNCC within 12 months of hire. Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
Experience: Experience with medical records and abstracting data is required. Experience in determining applicable procedures and responses time as would typically be accomplished in at least 1 year as Trauma Registry Specialist. Experience in quality management preferred. Knowledge of medical/technical/diagnostic/procedural terminology and clinical pathology. Able to review and understand clinical information related to the patient’s care and proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and ability to set up data analysis. Knowledge of detailed computer data-entry, collection, and retrieval operations for spread sheets to include graphics in Excel Knowledge of practices, pre-hospital care, emergency and discharge information and characteristics of trauma patients Ability to read and interpret written and transcribed documents in the medical record, and ability to enter complete data into on-line computer system.
Licensure, Registration or Certification: Certified Specialist in Trauma Registrar Preferred. New York State Registered Nurse License preferred. TNCC and TCAR preferred
