Position Summary:
The Food Service Manager is responsible for leading all food safety and sanitation efforts across our K–12 school cafeterias within an assigned region. This role plays a critical part in protecting the health and wellbeing of students by ensuring every kitchen operates in full compliance with health codes, regulatory standards, and internal protocols.
This is a hands-on role focused on training, auditing, and coaching on-site teams while building a proactive food safety culture throughout the region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal health regulations, as well as Upper Crust Food Service's food safety policies
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of school kitchens, storage areas, and service lines
- Develop and implement corrective action plans in partnership with chefs and site leads
- Train and coach kitchen staff on safe food handling, compliance with USDA program standards, sanitation procedures, allergen control, and HACCP standards
- Serve as the main point of contact for health department inspections and follow-up actions
- Maintain thorough documentation, including temperature logs, sanitation records, and food safety reports
- Support new site openings and staff onboarding with food safety training and resources
- Partner with Regional Directors and on-site leadership to ensure food safety remains a daily priority
Qualifications:
- ServSafe Certified (required)
- 3+ years of experience in food safety, food service management, or compliance — ideally within K–12, institutional, or large-volume operations
- Strong working knowledge of HACCP, USDA Child Nutrition Program standards, and allergen protocols
- Ability to build relationships and influence teams through coaching and clear communication
- Comfortable working in a school environment and traveling regularly between sites
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
