Avenue Z is seeking an experienced Associate Director to lead communications strategy and execution for our financial services, asset management, and financial technology clients. This leadership role requires a deep understanding of capital markets, asset management structures, and financial regulation. The Associate Director will drive strategic initiatives, manage client relationships, and lead messaging across investor, stakeholder, and media channels. Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Lead key accounts in the financial services, asset management space, and technology accounts including certain Web3 and AI clients, setting priorities and delivering tailored communications strategies.
- Build and oversee thought leadership and media campaigns on investment strategy, market trends, and financial services innovation, including working with the client to draft and pitch whitepapers, investment outlooks, and weekly commentary from portfolio managers and their respective strategies.
- Ensure messaging aligns with regulatory standards, client frameworks, and industry norms.
Content Development
- Draft and edit high-quality materials including market commentaries, earnings messaging, fund announcements, and stakeholder communications.
- Develop media pitches and press releases that articulate complex financial topics with clarity.
- Maintain a consistent tone and standard across all communication outputs.
Client & Project Management
- Manage multiple engagements across private equity, asset managers, and institutional investor clients.
- Ensure projects are executed on time and within scope, balancing strategic needs with responsiveness.
- Advise clients on sensitive communications matters, including crisis response, governance issues, and policy developments that could impact the client's reputation.
Strategic Planning
- Deliver actionable recommendations that align with client goals and market dynamics.
- Monitor financial media and regulatory developments to inform counsel and client positioning.
- Devise strategies for corporate and financial communications, investor relations and media relations engagements (e.g. writing earnings scripts, shareholder letters, and transactions related materials; developing investors outreach plans; providing strategic counsel on communications around capital markets activity; liaising with investors and journalists; providing support for key investors and staffing media events; and assisting with media training and related materials).
Team Leadership
- Mentor junior staff in financial communications best practices.
- Foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the team.
- Ensure quality control and standards are met for deliverables across accounts.
- Maintain a self-driven passion to stay abreast of client issues and related industry trends, and participate in industry networking events.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in financial communications, investor relations, or relevant roles at asset managers, investment firms, or financial PR agencies.
- Strong grasp of investment products and meanings (e.g., high yield strategies, mutual funds, ETFs, private equity, hedging and risk management) and financial regulations.
- Eagerness to stay at the forefront of emerging technology trends across financial and tech sectors.
- Outstanding writing and verbal communication skills, especially under tight deadlines.
- Ability to take complexity and translate effectively; a creative and strategic thinker in reputation management, sees around corners, approaches communications from new angles.
- Ability to take initiative and manage multiple assignments simultaneously in often demanding, deadline-driven situations.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to operate independently and as part of a team.
Bachelor's degree required; Master's or MBA preferred.
