Position Summary
-
Under general direction, provides basic and advanced emergency medical care for assessment/evaluation, treatment, stabilization, and
transport of the ill and injured for 911 response, inter-facility transfers, event medical support, and disasters. Provides security,
emergency/code response, and patient care functions in hospital. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient
centered care.

Unit Specific Position Responsibilities
- The EMT/Basic is responsible for delivering and administering high quality care and transportation to ill and injured persons.
- The EMT/Basic must demonstrate clinical competency and compassion in providing for physical and emotional needs of patients.
- Ability to assess patients with medical conditions with findings reflected in the patient record.
- Implements interventions consistent with protocols and documents response to treatment.

Prepares equipment and supplies.
- Checks medical equipment and supplies on a daily basis.
- Restocks and cleans unit after each mission.
- Knowledgeable in the use of radios and communication systems.
- Operates required vehicle(s) in a safe manner to perform required duties of the position.
- Participates in staffing special events as required

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
-
Current certification as Nationally Registered EMT/Basic.

Current AHA Health Care Provider CPR certification.
-
Valid driver’s/Chauffeurs License required.
-
Current Iowa EMT/Basic certification.

Must meet MGMC’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards
-
Must be at least 18 years of age, and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.

Mandatory Reporter training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.

Organizational Requirements:

Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements.
-
Preferred Qualifications:
-
An associates degree is preferred.
-
Currently enrolled in a paramedic program.
-
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
-
Skill in effective oral and written communication in English.
-
Knowledge of basic arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and their applications.
-
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and
grammar.

Active Listening skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking
questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times

Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to
problems.

Ability to manage one’s time effectively.
