SUMMARY: The Pediatrician is responsible for the expert provision of safe, efficient, patient-centered, and cost-effective care within the Hospital. Pediatrician shall provide the very best high quality, care to the patients assigned to the service through the Emergency Department and other approved referral sources. The role of the pediatrician is to provide inpatient care predominantly in settings in the acute care and intensive care units and overall manage and coordinate patient care throughout treatment while patients are hospitalized.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: Following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.
1. Direct Patient Care Services may include any of the following as designated by the Chair of Pediatrics or designee:
2. Responsibility for planning and arranging for the provision of diagnostic and treatment services for outpatients in the Department of Pediatrics. This includes routine well child and follow-up care, and accommodation of unscheduled sick visits.
3. Responsibility for the diagnostic and treatment services for newborns, including attendance of all deliveries in Labor & Delivery.
4. Direct and supervise all medical care and treatment given by house staff assigned to the Department of Pediatrics.
5. Provide consultation, when requested, to medical staff and house staff engaged in the care and treatment of patients in the Emergency Department or on inpatient nursing units.
6. Plan, arrange and participate in the performance of health examinations for patients eligible for California Health Disability Program and the Women’s Infants and Children’s WIC Program.
7. Provide other professional services as may be reasonably required by the Chair, Department of Pediatrics or designee.
8. Ensure all patient encounter forms are properly coded for billing purposes.
9. Maintain all compliance and educational standards as determined by supervisor and/or AHS.
10. Attendance on-site, in the Highland Pediatric Clinic or Newborn Nursery, as scheduled by the Chair, Department of Pediatrics or designee.
11. Availability for on-call and for callback services as may be reasonably scheduled or required by the Chair, Department of Pediatrics or designee.
12. Consult with members of the medical staff regarding issues concerning the appropriate medical services to be provided to such patients.
13. Consult and cooperate with the clinical departments to facilitate patient care management.
14. Refer when medically necessary patients for specialist care.
15. Use currently accepted methods and practices of medicine, adheres to applicable standards of care, medical ethics, policies and protocols.
16. Be responsible, on a case-by-case basis as the need arises, for taking all actions necessary to facilitate the appropriate transfer of a patient to or from another medical facility to gain access to skilled medical care.
17. Promote and maintains a good working relationship with other members of the medical staff and employees.
18. Assist hospital in attaining any goals regarding patient, employee and physician satisfaction in connection with Physician’s delivery of the services.
19. Consult with quality manager to achieve better clinical outcomes for patients, improve the quality of patient care and maximize the efficient utilization of physician and hospital recourses.
20. Assist hospital with the appropriate medical assessment, treatment and timely discharge of patients admitted to hospital for observation.
21. Report to hospital, on an as needed basis, material concerns about quality of care, delay in delivery of medical services to patients, or any patient concerns.
22. Comply with the requirements and standards of Medical, JCAHO and any other accrediting agencies designated as well as all applicable laws, rules and regulations.
23. Cooperate with hospital in implementing new procedures, controls and systems to promote and facilitate quality, cost controls, reimbursement functions, standardization of products and equipment, and any other requests made by hospital.
24. Provide effective and timely communications to referring or admitting physicians, patient and family concerning the clinical status of each patient admitted through the Hospitalists Program.
25. Promote and maintains good public relations on behalf of hospital and assists hospital in attaining goals established regarding patient/employee/physician satisfaction in connection with delivery of clinical services. Pediatricians will be “goodwill ambassadors” of the hospital.
26. Follow and abides by the hospitals Standards of Conduct.
27. Perform other duties as assigned.
Pay Range: $130.00 - $300.00 Per Shift
The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree is required.
Minimum Experience: Completion of approved post-graduate residency training in Pediatrics from an accredited hospital or medical center.
Required Licenses/Certifications: Board eligibility in Pediatrics; Board Certification (will be expected to obtain on the appropriate schedule); Compliance with Board mandated education and training to maintain State licensure and/or board certification.
Required Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of California.
