The quantum computing industry is embarking on a new phase of business. We are transitioning from a paradigm of occasional and remote, exploratory usage of experimental quantum computers to a model in which numerous customers demand exceptionally high-performance, commercial-scale machines dedicated and operated within their local facilities. To meet this need, we must dramatically scale up the producibility and economy of this highly complex multiphysics technology. We are seeking a unique and exceptional leader to head Quantinuum’s production and hardware producibility efforts. This hardware includes such varied technologies as cryogenics, low-noise analog and RF electronics, ultrahigh-vacuum, laser systems for spectroscopy across a range of wavelengths from UV to near IR, microfabricated devices (CMOS and MEMs), bulk optics, micro-optics, and integrated photonics. The ideal leader will have manufacturing expertise across a broad swath of those technology areas and experience integrating such complex systems of major subsystems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish the vision and strategies for scaling up the producibility of critical technologies needed for next-generation quantum computers: laser systems, optics and photonics; cryogenics; ultra-high vacuum; high-performance electronics, etc.
- Partner with science and engineering teams to transition early prototype hardware builds into reliable, low-rate production; develop and train the necessary manufacturing workforce
- Drive decisions regarding which technologies should be manufactured in-house, as core competencies, and which should be outsourced
- With Strategic Sourcing and Engineering, identify strategic collaborators and suppliers to execute our production vision.
- Evaluate and mature the manufacturing readiness level of key subsystem technologies and quantum computer assembly overall. Build the manufacturing roadmap and knowledge base.
- Leverage contract manufacturing effectively to reduce costs and inventory, build production resilience, and expand capacity
- Build and execute plans to achieve YoY improvements in cost reduction and production cycle time
- Own and manage execution of the above plans, including scope, schedule, budget, and resource management
- Supervise the manufacturing workforce: hiring, mentorship and coaching, training, and performance management
YOU MUST HAVE:
- Bachelor’s degree, minimum
- Minimum 7+ years of manufacturing experience in high-technology environment
- Minimum 2+ years of management experience with direct-reporting technical personnel
- Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. person (defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status)
- Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless also a U.S. citizen.

- Work experience with hardware in a deep-tech field such as quantum computing, quantum sensing, atomic physics, or quantum networking is a plus

- Strong organizational & leadership skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A cool, even-keeled temperament to keep conversations productive even in times of pressure and change

Compensation & Benefits:
Range posted is inclusive of incentive target

Estimated total wage: $224,000 - $280,000
