Ignite Education Solutions is hiring a Special Education Paraprofessional to work at Ferndale Area Elementary.

What are the duties and responsibilities?
Classroom Assistance
- Help with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment
- Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom
- Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting or positioning (if applicable)
- Assist students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs and personal hygiene
- Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative and emotional needs
- Work with individual student(s) or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher
Supervision
- Help manage behavior of student(s) as needed
- Help supervise student(s) throughout the school day, inside and outside of the classroom, including lunchroom, bus and playground duty
Record Keeping
- Help classroom teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports
- Maintain confidentiality
- Keep teacher informed of special needs and/or problems of student(s)
What are the required qualifications?
- Special Education Paraprofessionals must possess one of the following:
An associate degree or higher; or
Completed at least two years of postsecondary study; or
The successful completion of a state or locally developed assessment.
Note: Special Education paraprofessionals must also complete at least 20 hours of staff development activities related to their assignment each school year.
- Willingness to go through (and pass!) the required clearances and training to ensure the safety and security of our children, including: four clearances, mandated reporter training, a physical and TB test, and First Aide-CPR Certification. This can typically be accomplished within a week to get you started.
- Capacity for sitting as this happens throughout the eight-hour day.
Qualifications are in reference to CSPG 101 - Paraprofessional Staff.
