Exercise physiologist performs exercise and/or pharmacological nuclear stress tests and stress studies under the general supervision of the cardiologist.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES):
- Screen patient for the appropriate indication, type of test, and contraindications
- Assess patient history, symptoms, and signs that suggest increased risk so that appropriate medical supervision is provided
- Communicate with the patient about the reason for stress test, obtain informed consent, selects appropriate exercise testing procedure, and prepares patient for stress test
- Recognize when baseline EKG, BP, or symptoms indicate the stress test should not be performed
- Communicate with RN and/or MD regarding patient risk, assessment, and stability
- Perform diagnostic stress test, monitoring EKG continuously before, during, and after test
- Analyze EKG and recognize abnormal clinical and EKG responses to exercise (physical or pharmacological) and notify RN and/or MD when prudent
- Recognize appropriate termination criteria for the stress test
- Interpret exercise and pharmacologic stress test data
- Generate appropriate reports in EMR and/or PACs system (PICOM)
- Operate and maintain clinical exercise testing equipment and supplies
- Become proficient with EMR (Centricity) including scheduling
- Answer general phone calls and place notes in EMR
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
- American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) certification preferred
- Demonstrate 12 lead EKG interpretation and arrhythmia recognition skills
- Experience in stress testing or cardiac rehab is preferred
- Computer knowledge required, electronic medical records (EMR) highly preferred.
- Must have excellent customer service skills.
- Must be able to travel within main locations at SLHV.
- Must be detailed oriented and able to multi-task.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be self-motivated individual.
- Strong inter-personal skills.
- Able to work independently with minimal guidance and as part of a team.
- Multilingual and American Sign Language (ASL) plus.
