Summary of Position: MRI technologists perform a variety of functions to ensure the safe and effective performance of diagnostic exams following established protocols.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Operates MRI scanner to perform diagnostic process based on established protocols.
- Ensures all safety precautions are in place related to the operation of the MRI scanner and related magnetic field. Ensures all proper safety standards are met. Inspects room for potential environment of care hazards (call bells, O2 tank/outlets. Ensures all ferromagnetic materials are located outside of scan room. Reports any safety discrepancies to supervisor immediately. Follows all infection control standards and ensures procedure room is clean.
- Obtains and reviews safety questionnaire with patients and family members. Properly identifies and explains procedure to patient. Provides population specific care to patients. Prepares and positions patient for procedure by using established MRI protocols to achieve the highest quality image.
- Starts IV access according to standard procedure and injects media under the direction of a physician.
- Operates required equipment necessary to produce scans using established guidelines and MRI
- Protocols. Verification is provided that all ancillary equipment is operational (monitoring devices,
- Injectors, etc.) Performs quality assurance checks on equipment and procedure areas. Checks patient transport/transfer equipment to ensure compliance with safe operational standards.
- Ensures through understanding of all proper fire and safety evacuation procedures.
- Performs image post-processing and archival and ensures studies are networked via PACS system. Updates Medtitech system with appropriate exam information upon completion of the study
- Assists in maintaining supply inventory.
- Participates in on-going service and process improvement efforts.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of AMA approved school of radiological technology. NYS, RT ARRT license required. MRI or eligible as per ARRT requirements for advanced level certification. BLS certification. Advanced level certifications must be obtained within first year of employment. Minimum of two years practical experience as MRI Technologist preferred. Functional knowledge required in MRI scanner, pressure injector, teleradiology, and PACS system.
Salary Range: $30.32 - $49.79
Pay Grade: 32
