The Engineering Manager leads the engineering department, overseeing the design, installation, and improvement of production equipment and facility infrastructure. This role ensures compliance with safety and quality standards, drives continuous improvement, and manages capital projects and maintenance strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with Safety & Health standards, including cGMP and quality procedures; actively support safety training, hazard prevention, and site analysis.
- Manage the site engineering department, overseeing fixed costs, capital expenditures, and execution of improvement projects (scoping, funding, supervision, and commissioning).
- Partner with Maintenance to prioritize and balance planned and reactive work across teams.
- Provide technical leadership to drive long-term solutions that reduce downtime and improve efficiency.
- Lead and develop hourly, salaried, and contract personnel through scheduling, training, and performance management.
- Maintain accurate plant asset data to support maintenance; coordinate with vendors on parts, quotes, and orders.
- Support capital project development, troubleshooting, process changes (MOC), and documentation of procedures.
- Collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, Marketing, and Business units to advance process improvements, evaluate technologies, and align with strategic goals.
- Drive innovation by developing and evaluating new process or product ideas.
- Lead a high-performing team by setting clear goals, managing performance, resolving conflicts, and fostering cross-functional collaboration.
- Analyze operational data and prepare performance reports for leadership.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering
- 5+ years in engineering management; maintenance leadership a plus
- Experience with CAPEX projects and industrial maintenance practices (PM, CMMS, RCM, TPM)
- Knowledge of engineering safety standards
- Preferred: process control systems, control I/O, and PLC programming
- Preferred: Bilingual (Spanish)
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot control logic and components
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain accurate, detailed reports and documentation
- Proven leadership skills with experience in team development
Familiarity with mechanical conveying and processing equipment, including:
- Screw, drag, and belt conveyors
- Bucket elevators, dust collectors, rotary valves
- Centrifugal pumps, compressors, blowers, fans
- Mills, centrifuges, rotary dryers, and tanks
Environmental and/or Physical Requirements:
- Frequent standing, bending, climbing (ladder/stairs), temperature changes, and plant field visits
- Occasional lifting (Avg 20 lbs-Max 70 lbs), squatting, operating mobile equipment (Cushman/Pick up truck), and office work
