Under general supervision, the office registered nurse is the liaison to facilitate a close working relationship between physicians, hospitals we serve, patients and families. The office registered nurse facilitates safe, efficient, quality patient care by ensuring physician orders and requests are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES):
- Assess, initiate care of symptomatic patients in-office or by phone, following facility protocol.
- Triage patient needs and questions via phone, in person and via web portal.
- Relay pertinent information to providers such as critical labs, symptomatic patients.
- Give results on labs, diagnostic testing. Explain procedural outcomes.
- Educate patients on disease processes, medications, symptoms, testing, procedures.
- Monitoring multiple EMR (Centricity) desktops throughout the day, as well as incoming faxes.
- Obtain fingerstick INR, dose Coumadin patients, per facility protocol.
- Prepare procedural chart preps for outpatient procedures.
- Provide post-op wound assessment, follow up care instruction. Notifying provider as needed.
- Refill medications through EMR, handwritten orders as needed.
- Execute various outpatient orders such as labs, testing, specialty medications, durable medical equipment, home health, cardiac rehab, iron infusions.
- Act as a resource and fill in as needed, for cardiac stress testing.
- Act as a resource and assist when needed, for medication prior authorizations.
- Transport patients to ED by wheelchair (from hospital medical building sites).
- Arrange direct admissions as ordered.
- Access and request medical records as needed. Maintain access to computer applications needed for records. Ex. EPIC, Labcorp, Quest
- Maintain logs on various medical equipment, such as glucometers, medication refrigerators.
- Other various office duties as required/assigned, such as scheduling appointments.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES:
- ASN/BSN – Must have graduated nursing school and passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).
- Must have and maintain current nursing licensures for state of Missouri and Illinois.
- Must have and maintain ACLS/BLS certifications.
- Must have 5 years experience in nursing (3 years minimum in cardiology office, ICU/CCU, or telemetry floor highly preferred).
- Must display critical thinking skills, situational awareness. Effective judgement, decision making.
- Must be detailed oriented, able to multi-task, self-motivated. Able to work independently with minimal guidance and as part of a team.
- Must have proficiency in computer applications, electronic medical records (EMR).
- Must display strong inter-personal skills. Appropriate and effective oral and written communication skills. Provide excellent customer service.
- Must be able to travel within main locations at SLHV.
- Must have the availability to work the required schedule, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m, with mandatory overtime, as needed, without warning.
- Multilingual, American Sign Language (ASL) is a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Prolonged sitting and standing.
- Regular medical office environment.
- Must have ability to walk, sit, reach, pull, push, squat and bend.
- Lift up to 10-15 pounds (10-15% of the time) and 40-50 pounds (2-5% of the time).
- Must be flexible and work overtime as needed.
Physical Requirements
This position requires full range of body motion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk and stand for extended periods of time; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to handle or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
Work is performed in typical medical practice.
