Job Summary:
The SPT is directly accountable to the CS Supervisor under the direction of the Specialty Coordinator /Manager/ Director of Surgical Services.
- Performs specific functions in decontamination, disassembling, inspection, assembling, packaging and sterilizing.
- Issues sterilized supplies used in patient care.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately document the sterilization process from the mechanical, chemical and biological parameters used to achieve this process and document in Sterile Processing Microsystem (SPM).
- Communicate and interact with peers and co-workers, surgeons and company representatives with a positive attitude.
- Maintain all Healthstream assignments prior to deadlines.
- Participate in all competencies planned for the job role prior to deadlines.
Performance Expectations:
Performance expectations will be covered in the orientation and precepted phases of orientation to job.
- Demonstrate ability to properly disassemble and decontaminate surgical instruments, drills, and other equipment.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to inspect, assemble and appropriately wrap instrument sets for sterilization.
- Demonstrate knowledge of how to properly operate all cleaning and sterilization equipment. i.e. washer/decontaminator, ultrasonic, autoclaves, VPro, steam sterilizers, incubators, and battery chargers
- Demonstrate knowledge of the mechanical, chemical and biological tests and indicators for adequate sterilization.
- Recognize contamination/ breaks in wrapped sterilized instrument sets or containers.
- Demonstrate ability to assemble simple to complex sets within an expected time frame
- Demonstrate ability to appropriately assemble rigid container systems for instrument sets.
- Demonstrate knowledge of documenting the stages of processing for instruments in SPM
- Demonstrate knowledge of set cooling time.
- Demonstrate ability to unload racks and place sets/trays in proper designated locations.
- Adhere to the OR Attire and Attendance policy.

- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Work Experience:
One year central sterile experience preferred
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on the required timeframe below

Mental Demands:
Constantly required to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination. Requires mental alertness and critical thinking. Constantly required to hear normal sounds with some background noise as in answering the telephone and communicating with staff regarding items being brought to decontamination. Ability to perform as a team member, cooperate with others, follow directions precisely, demonstrate initiative, set priorities and function under stress.
