Summary:
The ED Staff Nurse renders nursing care and related assistance to Emergency Department patients, with patient-centered care being their primary responsibility. They are responsible for assessing the patient, in conjunction with the physician, and provide medical and nursing care for every patient. They will utilize the nursing process in assessment planning, intervention, evaluation, and teaching while providing patient care. The ED staff nurse will know and support the philosophy and objectives of the Emergency Department. They work under the direction of the Patient Care Coordinator and are ultimately accountable and responsible to the Director. They will utilize the knowledge and skills appropriate to communicate and interact with patients, families, and visitors of all ages while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Performance Expectations:
- Utilizes critical thinking abilities and executes the ability to care for the Trauma, Stroke, SEPSIS and STEMI patient according to protocol, policy, and procedures.
- Utilizes the ability to care for the cardiac patient and identify lethal cardiac dysrhythmias.
- Utilizes the ability to perform cardioversion, defibrillation, and transcutaneous pacing.
- Utilizes the ability to assist with setting up and maintaining sterile fields during procedures.
- Utilizes appropriate techniques for inserting and removing a peripheral IV and initiates IV therapy following standards, policies, and procedures.
- Utilizes the ability to perform moderate sedation.
- Utilizes the ability to perform as a Triage nurse.
- Utilizes the ability to collect evidence, following all state, federal and/or hospital regulations.
- Keeps a clean, safe, quiet, and efficient work environment.
- Follows the direction of the PCC.
- Meets established standards of practice of assessment and reassessment from triage to discharge/admission/transfer as evidenced by appropriate documentation according to policy and procedures, protocols, and patient satisfaction.
- Competent inpatient interventions as evidenced by safe administration of medications, treatments, procedures, infection control, and addressing status changes to care for patients safely.
- Evidence-based practice utilizes the knowledge and skills to safely and appropriately fulfill job-specific responsibilities for clinically ill patients.
- Utilizes the ability to perform and complete provider orders promptly.
- Must possess ability to remain certified on all required certifications/licensure.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
A graduate of a recognized non-online RN program is required. Telemetry nurse education and EKG training within 90 days of hire. NIHSS is required within 90 days of hire. External Juglar training and competency must be completed within 1 year of hire—moderate sedation training within the orientation period.
Work Experience:
Emergency or medical-surgical experience preferred, not required.
