JOB TITLE: Manager of Medical Fitness and Wellness
POSITION SUMMARY: The Manager of Medical Fitness and Wellness provides strategic and operational leadership for an integrated medical fitness and community wellness facility that includes medically informed fitness programming, a rehabilitation gym, therapeutic rock-climbing wall, group fitness and community classes, and related retail services. This role is responsible for the overall success, safety, financial performance, operational efficiency, and member experience across fitness, climbing, wellness, and retail offerings. While medical fitness is the core identity of the facility, the Manager ensures an inclusive environment that serves both medically complex patients and members and the broader community through high-quality programming, strong operational controls, and meaningful engagement. The Manager partners closely with clinical leaders, fitness professionals, climbing specialists, and community stakeholders to deliver a distinctive, safe, accessible, and medically integrated fitness experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provide leadership, supervision, and support for fitness professionals, climbing staff, instructors, and support personnel.

Ensure adherence to safety protocols, emergency response procedures, infection prevention practices, hospital policies, and accreditation standards.

Maintain documentation related to incidents, equipment inspections, maintenance logs, and compliance requirements.

Ensure standardized onboarding, assessments, reassessments, and data-driven progression protocols are implemented consistently.

Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and operational documentation related to fitness, rehabilitation, climbing, and wellness operations.

Oversee daily operations of the rehabilitation gym and medically integrated fitness space, ensuring safe and effective use by patients, members, and community participants.

Ensure equipment is clean, safe, functional, accessible, and available to support patient care and fitness programming.

Oversee gym retail operations, including therapy-related products, fitness accessories, and approved wellness items.

Manage retail inventory, ordering, pricing, product display, and inventory controls.

Collaborate with leadership to align retail offerings with patient recovery, mobility, fitness, and wellness needs.

Coordinate staffing schedules to ensure appropriate coverage across the gym floor, climbing wall, classes, and community programming.

Serve as a resource and escalation point for staff questions related to programming, safety, operations, and member experience.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to patient outcomes, safety, member experience, and operational efficiency.

Track and report key performance indicators, including membership mix, utilization, retention, and contribution margin.

Maintain schedules, utilization data, operational reports, and other performance information for the gym.

Oversee development and delivery of climbing classes, youth programs, special events, birthday parties, and other community offerings.

Monitor utilization, membership, participation, and operational trends to identify opportunities for program and service improvements.

Use data and performance indicators to inform programming, equipment allocation, staffing, and operational decisions.

Collaborate with leadership to evaluate and refine retail offerings based on patient recovery, mobility, wellness, and member needs.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient outcomes, operational efficiency, safety, and customer experience.

Build and maintain relationships with primary care providers, rehabilitation staff, community partners, and other stakeholders.

Support continuity of care by facilitating smooth transitions between inpatient, outpatient, specialty rehabilitation, medical fitness, and community-based services.

Promote meaningful engagement through high-quality group fitness, wellness, climbing, and community programming.

Serve as a visible resource for patients, members, staff, and community participants regarding programming, safety, and facility operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education:

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Sciences, or a related field preferred.

Minimum of 3–5 years of experience leading gym or fitness center operations, with demonstrated responsibility for retail services, membership growth, and customer experience.

Work may occur across rehabilitation, fitness, climbing, retail, group exercise, and community programming areas.
