About Bedrock Data
Data is moving faster than security can keep up, fragmented across clouds, SaaS apps, and AI systems, without the context teams need to protect it. Bedrock Data built the industry's first Metadata Lake to solve this: a living map of all your data that shows what it is, where it lives, who's using it, and how sensitive it is, without ever moving the data itself. This lets enterprises automate security and governance at scale, making data protection continuous and invisible instead of manual and disruptive. Global leaders in technology, finance, healthcare, and biotech trust Bedrock Data to make data security operational. With a $25M Series A led by Greylock, Bedrock is led by repeat founders and technologists who built industry-leading enterprise platforms at Sumo Logic, Rubrik, and Cohesity. Backend Engineer (Mid–Senior)
About the role
We're seeking a mid-to-senior backend engineer to join our team and help build our cloud security platform. In this role, you won't just write code — you'll also wear an entrepreneurial hat, collaborating closely with our leaders outside engineering, along with customers, partners, and investors, as we take our product from 0 → 1 → N. We're looking for someone who has already shipped and owned production systems and is ready to bring that experience to a fast-moving startup environment.
Bedrock Security is the latest investment of Greylock Partners. Greylock has backed a number of successful startups, including Palo Alto Networks, Sumo Logic, and Abnormal Security, along with non-security companies such as Airbnb, Figma, and Roblox.
What you'll do
Design and implement backend logic
- Architect and build robust, scalable services from the ground up.
- Own service security, performance, and scalability end to end.
- Work across our technology stack, including Golang, Python, Node, AWS infrastructure, Neo4j, and more.
Move the needle at a scrappy startup
- Partner closely with other engineers, product management, marketing, and customers.
- Drive architectural decisions and system design, weighing in on trade-offs with limited precedent to draw on.
Drive innovation
- Shape the future of data security as part of the core creative process.
- Identify complex challenges and propose and implement novel solutions, with minimal oversight.
Mentor and raise the bar
- Provide technical guidance and code review feedback to other engineers.
- Help establish and improve engineering practices, standards, and tooling as the team scales.
Continuous learning and adaptation
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Adapt quickly to changing requirements and business needs.
Compensation
Bedrock hires across a range of experience levels for this role. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $150,000 to $230,000 USD, depending on experience, scope, and leveling determined during the interview process. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for equity compensation and benefits.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 4+ years of professional experience as a backend engineer, ideally including some time in a security-related domain.
- Demonstrated track record of independently designing, building, and owning production services from concept through deployment.
- Proficiency with backend technologies and databases relevant to our stack (e.g., Golang, Python, Node, SQL, Neo4j).
- Experience contributing to architectural and system design decisions, not just implementation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, comfort with ambiguity, and a willingness to take ownership beyond your immediate scope.
- Bonus: experience mentoring other engineers or leading small technical initiatives.
