We are seeking a Mid-Level Electrical & Software Systems Engineer with hands-on experience interfacing with electrical and sensor systems, interpreting measurement and signal data, and developing software applications for data visualization and analysis. This role bridges the gap between hardware and software, requiring the ability to understand how electrical systems generate sensor data and translate that data into reliable, useful software outputs.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with electrical schematics, sensors, instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and communication interfaces, while also possessing strong software development skills. They will be responsible for integrating hardware and software systems, acquiring and processing sensor data, troubleshooting signal-related issues, and developing applications that allow engineers and technicians to visualize, evaluate, and analyze test results.
Key Responsibilities
- Interface with electrical systems, sensors, instrumentation, and data acquisition hardware.
- Interpret electrical signals and sensor outputs, including analog and digital measurements.
- Understand signal characteristics, data quality, sampling, noise, scaling, and sensor calibration.
- Develop software applications and tools to acquire, process, display, and analyze sensor data.
- Create intuitive data visualization interfaces, dashboards, plots, and reporting tools for engineering analysis.
- Integrate software applications with test equipment, embedded systems, data acquisition hardware, and communication protocols.
- Troubleshoot issues across the hardware/software boundary, identifying whether problems originate from sensors, wiring, signal conditioning, data acquisition, or application software.
- Work with engineers and technicians to define data requirements and develop practical tools for testing and analysis.
- Develop and maintain software using appropriate programming languages and frameworks.
- Analyze test data and implement algorithms or processing techniques to extract meaningful results.
- Document system interfaces, software functionality, test procedures, and troubleshooting methods.
- Participate in system integration, verification, validation, and debugging activities.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
- Approximately 3–7 years of relevant engineering experience, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Working knowledge of electrical circuits, sensors, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
- Experience interpreting analog and digital signals and understanding common signal-conditioning concepts.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, C#, C++, C or similar
- Experience developing applications for data visualization, analysis, or test automation.
- Familiarity with communication protocols and interfaces such as Ethernet, serial communications, CAN, USB, TCP/IP, or similar technologies.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Either Windows or Linux OS system API experience is very welcome
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a Embedded or Systems-oriented engineer who can move comfortably between the electrical bench and the software development environment. I would place SW Proficiency over HW Proficiency. They understand what is happening at the sensor and signal level, can determine whether collected data is valid and meaningful, and can build software tools that turn raw measurements into information engineers can use to make decisions.
Experience with test and measurement equipment, automated test systems, DAQ platforms, signal processing, instrumentation, or engineering data visualization is a notable plus.
