Emergency Department Technician

POSITION PURPOSE
-
Under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), the Emergency Department Technician provides patient care for all patients throughout the lifespan.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
-
High School plus specialized training for EMT, C.N.A. or Medical Assistant (2 months to 2 years)

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
-
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
-
Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.

Current status as a National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT), a licensed Wisconsin Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic, a Wisconsin Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) or a Medical Assistant (MA) who is a graduate of an associate degree program for Medical Assisting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
-
Performs technical skills under the supervision of the Emergency Department physicians and RNs for all patients throughout the lifespan.

Assists medical and nursing staff with patient data collections, patient care, clerical duties and documents/communicates appropriately.

Assists with facilitating interdepartmental and inter-hospital patient transfers as well as patient transfers between the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers and the Emergency Department.
