Position Summary
|
|
The primary purpose of the Venipuncture Technician is to draw blood and collect body fluid specimens in an accurate and safe manner as designated by the department policies and procedures under the direction of the Unit Director or designated Technical Specialist.

ALS provides lab, courier, and phlebotomy services for our local and surrounding counties (Stark, Wayne, Summit, Tuscarawas, and Holmes Counties).

Qualifications
|
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
|
- Completion of a phlebotomy program.
|
- Experience in Venipuncture preferred.
|
|
|
|

- Experienced phlebotomist; able to work independently.

- Willing to travel and train at all outreach locations if needed.

Responsibilities & Expectations
|
- Correct identification of the patient using patient name and date of birth.
|
|
|
|
|
- Proper labeling of specimens.
|
- Proper specimen storage and transporting requirements.
|
|
|
|
|
- Patient Relations Skills.
|
|
|
- Assists with training of students and new personnel.
|
- Adhere to hospital dress code policy and maintains a professional appearance.
|
- Follows universal precautions at all times.
|
|

Working Conditions
|
- 7:30am-4:30pm M-F / Occasional weekends if required.
|
- Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the shift.
|
- Occasional rotation of location, shifts, weekends.
|
|
|
|

Hazardous Exposure Category
|
|
Category I - Includes tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for spills or splashes of, or mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
