Outpatient Clinical Care Assistant (OCCA)
Summary
The Outpatient Clinical Care Assistant (OCCA) supports the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care in the ambulatory setting under the direction of the provider and nurse. The OCCA performs a variety of clinical, technical, and administrative duties including patient intake and rooming, specimen collection, diagnostic testing, treatment support, patient education reinforcement, and electronic health record documentation. This role collaborates with providers and other healthcare team members to ensure efficient clinic operations, promote positive patient outcomes, maintain regulatory and safety standards, and provide an exceptional patient experience.
Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to read, write, and speak English as well as follow oral and written instructions
- Understanding of human anatomy sufficient to perform job duties
- Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities
- Basic knowledge of math
- Interpersonal skills to interact with all staff, patients, and family members
- Strong organizational skills to set priorities, organize work activities, and complete assigned work
Required Length and Type of Experience
- Minimum of one-year recent healthcare experience in a hospital, ambulatory, home care, assisted living, nursing home, or long-term care, preferred
- Proficient in the use of an electronic medical record, preferred
Required Licensure or Certification
Current BLS Certification
Required Physical and Environmental Demands
- Requires full body motion to move and lift patients
- Manual Finger Dexterity with good eye-hand coordination
- Requires hearing and vision corrected to a normal range
- Involves extensive standing and walking
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
- Flexible scheduling and adaptable to changing environment
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
