What You'll Do as a Pharmacy Technician II
- Assist the Pharmacist and other department personnel to meet the needs of the pharmacy's customer service base.
- Integrate pharmacy knowledge and skills with effective patient interaction to provide useful information.
- Fill and mix medications, including IV admixtures, safely and effectively within legal and policy limits.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, colleagues, physicians, leadership, and volunteers.
- Handle interactions with patients and families in an ethical manner, practicing compassion and respect.
- Respond quickly and accurately to emergencies and changes in patient condition.
- Support top-tier outcomes for patient experience, quality, and safety.
- Adhere to UNC Health Appalachian policies, regulatory requirements, and standards of behavior, practicing within the scope of your license.
Qualifications
- Education:
- High school graduate required.
- Experience:
- Prior hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
- Previous retail pharmacy experience considered.
- Licensure/Certifications:
- Pharmacy Technician certification required.
- Training in IV admixtures required.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong communication skills; ability to work within the chain of command using positive verbal and non-verbal techniques.
- Competence in filling and mixing medications safely and effectively within the limits of certification and policy.
- Exceptional customer service for patients, families, staff, and physicians.
Physical & Work Environment
- Continuous standing and walking, often 8+ hours per shift; frequent bending, squatting, twisting, turning, and reaching.
- Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull 50+ lbs; manual dexterity and mobility required.
- Frequent hand, finger, and wrist repetition; near visual acuity and close eye work; speaking, reading, and writing for extended periods.
- Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and hazards from electrical/mechanical equipment.
- Possible exposure to ionizing/nonionizing radiation (including x-ray and microwave).
- Subject to irregular hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays) and emergencies.
