As an Endoscopy RN Team Leader at UNC Health Appalachian, you’ll provide clinical leadership and daily oversight of the Endoscopy Department while ensuring safe, efficient, and patient-centered care. What You’ll Do as an Endoscopy RN Team Leader
Clinical Leadership & Department Operations
- Provide daily oversight and coordination of Endoscopy Department operations.
- Ensure appropriate staffing, scheduling, and workflow management to support efficient patient care.
- Promote a patient care environment that is safe, effective, timely, equitable, and patient-centered.
- Assist in troubleshooting operational challenges and collaborate with leadership to improve departmental processes.
- Support compliance with UNC Health Appalachian policies, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
Procedural Nursing & Patient Care
- Assist with all aspects of endoscopic procedures, including scrubbing, circulating, monitoring, and recording.
- Provide direct and indirect patient care that meets the psychosocial, physical, and restorative needs of each patient.
- Assess and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition or emergency situations.
- Ensure safe, high-quality care while maintaining patient dignity, compassion, and respect.
Collaboration & Communication
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, leadership, and healthcare team members.
- Serve as a resource and role model for nursing staff within the department.
- Promote teamwork, professionalism, and a healthy work environment.
- Assist coworkers, patients, and visitors as appropriate within the scope of licensure and practice.
Quality, Safety & Professional Excellence
- Support initiatives aimed at achieving exceptional patient experience, quality outcomes, and patient safety.
- Ensure accurate documentation and adherence to clinical protocols and standards.
- Demonstrate accountability, effective delegation, and professional conduct.
- Maintain readiness for on-call responsibilities and urgent procedural needs.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting required.
- Experience in a procedural area preferred.
- One (1) year of experience in a leadership or similar role with comparable responsibilities preferred.
Licensure & Certifications
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of North Carolina required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required at the time of hire.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong clinical knowledge and ability to deliver safe, effective patient care within the scope of RN licensure and organizational policies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, physicians, and team members.
- Knowledge of procedural nursing workflows and the continuum of patient care.
- Ability to effectively lead teams, delegate responsibilities, and maintain efficient department operations.
- Demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service, patient safety, and quality outcomes.
- Ability to remain composed and make sound decisions in a fast-paced procedural environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, position, push, pull, and transfer patients and equipment weighing 50+ pounds.
- Manual dexterity and mobility required for patient care and procedural responsibilities.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, twisting, turning, and reaching.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand, finger, and wrist movements.
- Near visual acuity required for detailed patient care, documentation, and procedural tasks.
- Ability to work extended periods standing and walking during shifts of eight (8) or more hours.
Work Environment
- Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, and infectious materials.
- Frequent exposure to electrical and mechanical equipment, chemicals, specimens, and other healthcare-related hazards.
- Subject to irregular hours including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations.
- Participation in an on-call rotation is required.
- May be exposed to vibration, confined spaces, and ionizing/non-ionizing radiation, including X-ray and microwave equipment.
- Requires the ability to maintain focus and efficiency in a fast-paced procedural environment.
