Position Summary: Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Retrieval and reconciliation of medical records and preparation of records for efficiency imaging, validation of the accuracy and completeness of medical records in the Electronic Medical Record(EMR) system. Follows procedures for document imaging system prep, scan, index and archival for timely availability of electronic health records. Ensures documents are of good quality images that are indexed to correct patient, visit encounter, and document name. May perform specified document review of patient records to ensure documents area accurately imaged into designated computer systems for tracking completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established standards. Assist clinicians and nursing staff with record completion activities over phone or in person to support improving the overall quality and completeness of documentation. Serves as Birth Registry Clerk for data collection and transmission of forms and data under the guidance of the Vital Statistics Registrar and Paternity Opportunity Program. Has working knowledge of HIPAA Privacy Practices and Release of Information policies and procedures, can assist patients and staff relative to HIM Department responsibilities regarding authorizations, patient access, request for amendments, accounting of disclosures, and minimum necessary standards. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. This position also provides back up for a variety of functions within the Health Information Management Department requiring knowledge of other HIM duties and may perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of healthcare experience. Ability to navigate electronic health record systems and document imaging technology. Knowledge of medical terminology. Basic computer skills, including data entry and proficiency with office software. Strong attention to detail with strong organizational skills. Ability to work in high volume/fast-paced area.Works efficiently with attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to provide customer service with tact, discretion, and diplomacy. Communicates effectively, clearly, and concisely both orally and written. Self-motivated and must be able to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment needing little or no supervision. Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals.
Preferred Qualifications: Associate’s / Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience. Health Information or equivalent courses: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). Knowledge of medical terminology, one-year experience in a Health Information Management Department of an acute care facility or two years of experience in a health care setting.
Salary range: $23.33 - $32.83 Salary will be commensurate with experience.
