Position Summary
Batch Plant Operators are responsible for producing ready-mix concrete products by operating batch plant equipment and managing material batching processes. This role includes ensuring accurate mix designs, maintaining plant equipment, monitoring production, and supporting heavy civil construction operations. The position requires strong attention to safety, mechanical awareness, and the ability to work in varying weather conditions.
What You'll Do
- Operate central mix and dry batch plants to produce ready-mix concrete
- Batch raw materials including aggregates, cement, water, and additives according to mix designs
- Monitor production to ensure quality control and adherence to specifications
- Perform daily plant inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and minor maintenance
- Manage material inventory and communicate material needs
- Coordinate with maintenance teams for repairs to prevent downtime
- Operate loaders or coordinate material feeding to ensure continuous plant operation
- Maintain accurate production records and reports
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures including lock out tag out
- Participate in daily safety meetings and follow all company safety policies
- Assist with general labor duties as needed around the plant and job site
- Work safely in all weather conditions
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

What You'll Bring
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid driver's license required
- Ability to operate and monitor batch plant equipment required
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor conditions required
- Strong understanding of safety procedures related to plant operations required
- Ability to calculate daily costs and adjust crews/hours to ensure budgets are met required
- Ability to recognize potential mechanical problems and report or repair issues to maintain plant operation required
- 1+ year experience in batch plant operations preferred
- Knowledge of concrete mix designs and batching processes preferred
- Experience operating heavy equipment such as loaders preferred
- Mechanical troubleshooting and repair knowledge preferred
- Basic math skills and ability to maintain production records preferred
- Familiarity with computers and plant systems preferred
- ACI certification preferred
