GENERAL SUMMARY
-
The RN – C/C Practice Support Nurse works collaboratively with the management team and division education department in identifying educational and/or learning needs of the assigned area(s). Actively engaged in educational initiatives, providing guidance and support to facilitate a smooth transition for new team members into a challenging environment. Focusing on real-time clinical support with an emphasis on continuous education, retention, mentorship and guidance, this resource will strengthen clinical competence, minimize practice variation, and enhance patient safety. Reports to department leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides developmentally appropriate psychosocial and clinical care respective to the assigned patient population.

Provides patient and staff education / support / mentorship, clinical oversight / supervision, and participates in unit-based activities to include but not limited to quality assessment, shared governance, scheduling, quality review, and staff development in-services.

Provides direct patient care services to assigned patient population.

Provide on-the-spot coaching to reinforce clinical concepts, workflows, and protocols.

Serves as a resource for clinical expertise and insight on high acuity patient populations.

Works to coordinate daily clinical activities for assigned patient group.

Utilizes evidence-based practice to develop and implement standards of practice that guide practice improvement initiatives.

Assist with competency validation and skills reinforcement within the unit.

Serves as a champion for organizational and departmental change as well as policy adherence.
-
Maintains and ensures appropriate documentation for clinical coaching sessions or educational processes.
-
Assists in the orientation process and ongoing clinical education program for staff.
-
Plans, provides, and monitors individualized nursing care in response to specific patient needs within a defined scope of practice.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
-
Required Education and Experience
-
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required or must be actively enrolled in a bachelor’s program and graduate within one year of hire.
-
- Five years of progressively more responsible neonatal/pediatric nursing experience required.
-
- Minimum of 6 months department specific Charge Nurse and Preceptor experience required.

- Demonstrates leadership skills, excellent communication skills and strong critical thinking skills necessary.

- Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice.

WORKING CONDITIONS
-
Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
